Akshay Dewalkar

Akshay Dewalkar is a doubles badminton player who represents India at badminton tournaments. Akshay currently plays for India at the Men's doubles event with Arun Vishnu as partner and the mixed doubles badminton event with Pradnya Gadre as his partner.

Whilst in school Akshay used to play Kabaddi, and his father Dilip Dewalkar was himself a Kabaddi player. However after the family shifted from Mumbai to Thane, Akshay turned to badminton and was coached by reputed badminton coach Mr. Shrikant Vad at the Syed Modi Badminton Academy in Thane.

The switch from Kabaddi to Badminton did pay-off well as Akshay improved at the game quickly, his powerful smashes started getting noticed, and after making waves at the junior levels, he finally made it to the senior Indian squad.

National Level:

Winner of National Junior championship title.

Akshay and Jishnu partnered each other to win the Silver Medal for the year-2009 Indian National Badminton championship. India's no.1 men's doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar/Sanave Thomas were the winners.

The pair of Akshay and Jishnu also bagged the silver medal at the recently held 34th National Games 2011 held at Ranchi, Jharkhand.

International Level:

Akshay and Jishnu Sanyal won the bronze medal at the 10th SAF (South Asian Federation) games that were held at Colombo in the year 2006.

Akshay Dewalkar partnered Jishnu Sanyal to win the Men's doubles title at the Bahrain Air-Bahrain International Badminton Challenge tournament in 2008. Dewalkar and Sanyal came back from a game behind to win the final match 14-21, 21-18, 21-11 against Iranian pair Ali Shahhosseini and Mohammed Kheradmandi.

He was a also semifinalist at the Australia Open Grand Prix badminton tournament in 2009. He alongwith Jishnu reached the semi-finals of the GP event, before losing to second-seeds Teik Chai Gan and Bin Shen Tan of Malaysia.
