Who invented badminton

It is said that Badminton was invented in the 1860's by British India officers who were stationed in India at the city of Poona. These officers added a net between the players, while playing the traditional British game of Battledore and shuttlecock. The new game thus invented was known at that time as the 'Poona game'.

When these officers returned back home to Gloucestershire County in England, they took their new game invention alongwith them. Then at the 'Badminton House' of the Duke of Beaufort the 'Poona game' was once played, and became popular. The game started to be then called as badminton.

The game of badminton then soon spread to other parts of Europe and the United States as well. Formal rules and regulations were then drafted, the IBF (International badminton federation) was formed, the All-England Open International tournament started, the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup championships were born, and the game got a place at the Olympics from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
