66Badminton is sport which can be played formally or informally. It is a great sport which can be set up with little effort. Most large retailer have backyard badminton sets for sale. But even when playing a social game of badminton it is always good to play according to set rules. This is will ensure a better playing experience.
But before I explain, badminton rules I will define what some badminton lingo is:
Shuttle - consists of a ball of cork or rubber with a crown of feathers, usually made of plastic
Racket - A badminton racket consists of a head, throat, shaft and handle. A racket can not 27 in (680mm) in overall length and 9.1 in (230 mm) in overall xxx. The head (the stringed part) cannot 11 in (280 mm) in length and 8.6 in (220mm) in xxx.
Court - this is the playing area of the game
Net - usually made from fine cord and is 2'6" (76cm) in depth.
Badminton clubs are at liberty to vary the official rules slightly, so if you are playing at a club; make sure that you are familiar with their rules.
Scoring
A badminton match consists of 3 games and the winner is the team/player who wins the most games. In a doubles game the first team to score 15 points wins the game. In a singles game the player to score 11 points wins the game
In a doubles game both teams may get 14 (10 in a singles game). When this happens the team who first got 14 can choose to continue the game to 15 (11) or choose to continue the game to 17 points (13 ina singles game.
The winning team/player begins serving on the next game.

The badminton rules are similar to doubles except that there is no alternately between serves between the team.
