Badminton is a sport that requires a combination of explosive power, speed, agility and endurance. Combining explosive jumps and movements in a repetitive manor requires precise conditioning. Oarsome Sport & Fitness have experience of writing detailed weekly training programmes for West of Scotland Institute of Sport badminton players. These training programmes were structured to ensure 2 main peaks within the competitive season.
Oarsome Sport & Fitness hold the contract for 2004-2005 with the Glasgow School of Sport to run the badminton sport science support services for the badminton programme. The badminton sport science training programme provided will involve testing 17 elite youth badminton players at key points within the badminton season. Precise feedback will be provided to the High Performance Badminton Coach on the various aspects of badminton specific fitness and guidelines provided on the areas of development for each badminton player.
Given the complex array of physiological demands that badminton places on the body it is important to monitor the training response of each player.
This can be achieved in two ways:
Fitness Testing
Fitness testing can provide information to badminton players and badminton coaches regarding the improvements made in badminton specific fitness following a period of training. The results can then be fed back into the strength and conditioning programme of the badminton player to ensure optimal development.
Monitoring of training is used to compliment fitness testing. Monitoring will track the day-to-day response of the player to the training they are doing. Monitoring uses several measures to assess the readiness of the player. Click here to see an example monitoring sheet.
