The Importance of a Racket in a Badminton Set

Badminton is now a sport which is taking the world by storm. People from all over the world are not only playing this sport casually but also competitively. What many people do not realize is that skill alone will not be enough if you intend to go far but equipment as well. Let me give you an example supporting this statement. If you intend to take a good picture, you would need a good DSLR camera as it gives you the clarity and quality. Having the technique or skill alone is definitely not enough. The same with badminton, if you do not have a racket which is suitable in both weight and size, you will not be able to play the game to the highest of your standard.

Before I elaborate more on what makes a good racket, let me briefly tell you what a badminton set consist of. Besides the rackets, there will be shuttlecocks and a net. These are the basic requirements of the game. Other 'add-on' items to consider will be badminton shoes, clothes, headbands and wristbands. Now, I shall explain the main structure of a racket.

A badminton racket consists of 5 main sections. The first section is the head, followed by the string area, the throat, the shaft and finally the handle. Each section has its very own defined function. These functions will decide the character of the racket. There are two main types of shape of a racket. The first shape is oval which happens to be the original shape. This shape causes the racket to have a lower surface area of sweet spot. This enables the user to have more powerful shots but it requires a higher amount of precision when hitting the shuttle. The second shape is an isometric shaped racket. This is the newly formed shape which is being used widely as it has a large surface area of sweet spot which means a decent shot can be obtained although the shuttle is not struck right down the middle.

The length and xxx of a racket should not surpass 680mm and 230mm in that order. The stringed area, on the other hand, should not exceed 280mm in length and 220mm in xxx. A badminton racket is mainly affected by the characteristics of its frame. The golden tip in finding the perfect racket is to choose one which is suitable to your style, technique and flair. Ensure the weight, size, frame and all other aspects are comfortable with you. Finally, make sure the tension of the strings is high. This not only enables you to have the maximum power and velocity, but it also avoids random errors in a game.
